Hitch, Main Frame and Draft Frame
Inspect for cracks and damage
Steam clean the machine and make a thorough inspection for cracks, damage, leaks and loose bolts.Consult your Caterpillar dealer for welding and repair instructions, if necessary.
Hydraulic Tank
Cracks that leak oil are a potential fire hazard. Check for loose hydraulic tank mounting bolts. Inspect for cracks at the weld seams.Fuel Tank
Cracks that leak fuel are a potential fire hazard. Check for loose fuel tank mounting bolts. Check for cracks along the seams of the tank, inside the wheel well.Steering Links
Inspect the steering links for cracks. Cracked links should be replaced - do not repair cracks by welding. Check for excessive wear at the bushings at the head ends of the steering cylinders. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for the clearance limitations and checking procedures.Draft Frame Gooseneck and Cross Tube
Check for cracks at the turn stops on the gooseneck. Look for cracks at the weld around the lower gooseneck plate on both sides. Look inside the cross tube. Check for cracks at the apron cylinder opening. Look for cracks around the wrapper plate at the weld to the cross tube.Draft Arms
Look for cracks at arm to cross tube welds on the inside and the outside of the arms. Look for cracks at the flange at the cross tube mounting. Check for cracks at the reinforcing plate welds at the outside of the arms.Hitch
Look for wear or mushrooming of the bottoming out stops. Add weld or a plate to the stops if worn. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for repair information.
Replace or repair the hitch and bracket castings if they are cracked. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for repair information.
Look for cracks at the lower link bore of the hitch. Look for cracks at the upper pin bore of the bracket.Main Frame and Differential Case
Crankcase Guards can fall and cause personal injury when the mounting bolts are removed. Support the guards when removing bolts.
Lower the tractor crankcase guard. Look for cracks at the weld of the main frame to the differential case. Look for cracks around the rear engine supports. Look for cracks at the welds of the ROPS support frame to the main frame members.Hydraulic System
Inspect hoses
Check all hydraulic hoses, clamps and flanges for leaks.Replace hoses that are worn or damaged.Hitch Bearings
Check for Wear
Check the upper and lower kingbolt bearing clearance (maximum clearance .060"). Check the front and rear horizontal pivot bearing clearance (maximum clearance .060"). Check the hitch link bearing clearance (maximum clearance .060" for a single bearing).Consult your Caterpillar dealer for the inspection procedure.
