Suspension accumulator (1) Nitrogen charging valve (2) End cap (3) Nitrogen chamber (4) Cylinder (5) Piston (6) Oil chamber (7) End cap (8) Inlet port (9) Holes (10) Restrictor check valveThe suspension accumulator consists of cylinder (4), sealed piston (5), and end caps (2, 7). End caps (2, 7) are screwed into the cylinder.Nitrogen charging valve (1) is screwed into the top end cap. Restrictor check valve (10) is installed in the bottom end cap. Restrictor check valve (10) is normally seated over inlet port (8) .The suspension accumulator has a precharge of pressurized nitrogen gas with piston (5) at the bottom of the cylinder.The weight of the machine forces the oil from the suspension cylinders through inlet port (8) and the piston rises. This further compresses the nitrogen gas until the weight of the machine is supported.When the front axle is deflected upward, more oil from the suspension cylinders is forced into the accumulator and the gas acts as a spring. The nitrogen gas compresses as the oil volume increases, and the nitrogen gas expands in order to push the oil back into the suspension cylinders.As the oil passes into the accumulator, restrictor check valve (10) is lifted from the seat and the flow of oil is unrestricted. Oil flow from the accumulator closes the check valve and the oil is restricted as the oil passes through holes (9) in order to control the rebound of the suspension.
