Manual Operation
The power module can be used as a single, stand-alone unit paralleled to the utility for base load operation. Manual operation refers the use of the circuit breaker switch to close the generator breaker manually. The following information describes the steps for manual operation.
Ensure that all load cable connections have been correctly made.
Verify that the unit can be safely started.
Verify that the unit can be that paralleled to the utility.
Verify the correct load phase rotation with the generator prior to connecting the output power cables.Failure to match the generator phase rotation with the bus connection prior to paralleling the units may result in damage to equipment.
Pre-starting Procedures
The pre-startup procedures are to be performed by qualified personnel. Perform the following steps before the units are started.
Ensure that the GPC and the UMR paralleling controls are turned on.
Verify that the lead unit jumper is not installed on terminals 1UP-93 and 1UP-94 in the customer connection box. The unit will always parallel to a live source for base load operation.
Use the Caterpillar service tool to verify the Cat DVR configuration of the "load compensation mode" parameter. The "load compensation mode" parameter must be set to "DROOP".
Program the GPC configuration parameters as follows:
Reactive power load share to "OFF"
Power controller P set 1 is set to desired base load level (default is 1825 kW)
Power factor control set point is set to desired power factor level (default is i0.95)
Power controller Ramp (default is 10 kW/s) is set to desired (shared set point for soft load and for soft unload)
Verify that the on-board utility protective relay (UMR) configuration parameters are set for the requirements of the specific application at the site. Note: Refer to the information in the section for "Default Settings for Utility Multifunction Relay".

Use the 2 position switch (22) in order to select either the potentiometer or the GPC set point control. The potentiometer or the GPC set point control are used for base load level reference.Note: Refer to the information that is in the "Base Load Potentiometer Settings" section for potentiometer settings and associated base load levels.Note: The GPC base load level is determined by the value of the "Power controller P set 1" GPC parameter.

Install wiring from the "utility breaker auxiliary" contact to terminals UTB+ and UTB-.
If required, install wiring from the "utility transfer trip" dry contact to terminals B+ and UTXF.Startup procedure
Press the "RUN" button that is on the EMCP 3.Note: The engine will start as soon as the "RUN" button is pressed.
Observe the generator voltage and frequency on the GPC screen after the generator is at the rated rpm. Observe the bus voltage and frequency on the GPC screen after the generator is at the rated rpm.
Use the operator controls to adjust the voltage if necessary. Note: The frequency is automatically controlled by the GPC.
Observe the linear LED synchroscope that is on the GPC. The generator is in sync with the bus if the green LED, that is in the center position, is lit. The breaker
