Remove And Install Crankshaft Vibration Damper
1. Remove the bolts and damper guard (1) from the engine. 2. Remove two bolts (2), and install two 1/2"-13 NC guide bolts. Remove the remainder of bolts (2). Pry the damper assembly (3) out slightly and attach hoist and strap as illustrated. The weight of the damper assembly is 34 kg (75 lb.). 3. Remove two bolts (5), and install two 1"-14 NF guide bolts. Install tool (A) and a hoist, and remove the remainder of bolts (5) and damper assembly (4). The weight of damper assembly (4) is 79 kg (175 lb). Note alignment marks (6) and (7) located on the end of the crankshaft and on the inner portion of the crankshaft damper. The following steps are for installation of the crankshaft vibration damper.4. Inspect the viscose damper for signs of leakage or a dented (damaged) housing Either condition can affect damper operation.5. Install two 1"-14 NF guide bolts in the end of the crankshaft. Fasten a hoist to damper (4) with tool (A).6. Put the damper in position on the guide bolts, and make sure mark (6) on the damper assembly is in alignment with mark (7) on the end of crankshaft. Put 2P2506 Thread Lubricant on the bolts. Install the bolts to hold damper in position, and remove tool (A) and the guide bolts. Install the remainder of bolts (5). Tighten to a torque of 1125 100 N m (820 75 lb ft).7. Install two 1/2"-13 NC guide bolts in damper assembly (3). Attach hoist and strap as previously illustrated in the removal. Install the bolts to hold damper assembly (3) to damper (4). Remove the guide bolts, and install the remainder of the bolts. Tighten to a torque of 55 7N m (41 5 lb ft).8. Put damper guard (1) in position, and install the bolts to hold it in position on the engine.
