The electrical sections of this manual deal with the Systems Operations, Troubleshooting, and Testing and Adjusting of the implement electronic control system. Electronic control of the implement control system and other systems that are used to operate the machine is provided by an Electronic Control Module (ECM).The Implement ECM is the primary control module for the operation of the blade, the ripper, and the winch. The implement controls send input commands to the Implement ECM. The ECM will respond to the commands by activating the appropriate solenoid valves. These solenoid valves control the amount of oil that flows from the main control valves. The cab on the machine can be tilted and locked into the tilted position in order to allow access to the ECM. For the procedure for raising the cab to the tilt position and locking the cab in the tilt position, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your machine.Read the electrical system guideline information that is found in the Troubleshooting, "Electrical Maintenance Guidelines" section of this manual. Follow the guidelines in this section when performing maintenance procedures on the machine electrical systems and the machine hydraulic systems. All of the diagnostic codes will be activated in a "MID - CID - FMI" format. All event codes will be activated in an "EID - Level 1, 2 or 3" format. This information will be displayed on the Message Display. The active and logged codes can be viewed with Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) software on a laptop computer. For a list of all of the possible diagnostic codes that can be activated by the control module, refer to the Troubleshooting, "Diagnostic Code List" section of this manual. Before troubleshooting the cause of a specific diagnostic code that has been activated, read the electrical system guideline information that is found in the Troubleshooting, "Electrical Maintenance Guidelines" section of this manual. A specific troubleshooting procedure for each of the diagnostic code can be found in the Troubleshooting section of this manual. For a list of all of the possible event codes that can be activated by each of the three control modules and recommendations on the action to take when a particular event code is activated, refer to the Troubleshooting, "Event Code List" section of this manual. For more information on the operation of the Implement System and the electrical components that are used in the system, refer to the following sections of this manual:
