Schematic for Machine ECM Data Link connections.This diagnostic code is caused by network data that is in error between the Machine ECM and the "Monitor Display" ECM through the J1939 Data Link. The data received over the data link is in error. The FMI 19 diagnostic code is associated with received network data. The component used to measure the real world data is wired directly to the module sourcing the data to the network and not to the module receiving the data via the network. This code indicates that the message was received properly but the value was an error indicator. The reason this code is set is because the Machine ECM will need to take response action based on the error value. Note: The FMI 19 diagnostic code is accompanied by other diagnostic codes related to the data link.A possible cause of this diagnostic code is listed below:
The wiring for the data link connection may be damaged.
The Machine ECM is operating intermittently.The J1939 Data Link is an input and output of all electronic control modules. The data link is designed to carry communications between the electronic control modules. The data link is not a visible component. The data link consists of internal control circuits and the connecting harness wiring. Test Step 1. CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC CODES RELATED TO DATA LINK
Connect a laptop loaded with the latest version of Cat ET to the service connector.
Note all diagnostic codes related to the data link.
Perform the troubleshooting procedure to correct the active diagnostic codes.Expected Result:All troubleshooting has been performed, CID 0247 FMI 19 is no longer active.Results:
OK - All troubleshooting has been performed, CID 0247 FMI 19 is no longer active.STOP
NOT OK - All troubleshooting has been performed, CID 0247 FMI 19 is still active.Repair: A failure of the ECM is unlikely. Exit this procedure. Perform this procedure again. If the failure is not found, replace the ECM. See the Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace" section. STOP
