Rework Procedure
Recommendations:
A. Machine Preparation
1. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual (SENR6148):- Remove and install the boom Cylinder (5456-010), pages 36-38.- Remove and Install Boom (6501-010) pages 41-45.- Remove and Install Cab (7301-010) pages 64-66.2. Prepare the machine with low-pitched position. See Illustration 1.B. Welding
1. Equipment required: Power source able to supply 500 Amps or more with DC current for welding. This source also has to be able to gouge with 500 Amps or more.2. Shielding gas: CO2 or mixed gas ARGON/CO2.3. Location: It is recommended that this rework be done in the dealership at room temperature.4. Parts have to be clean of oil, moisture, grease, rust, paint or any other contaminant in the weld joint prior to welding. The welded area shall be free of weld spatter or slag that pose assembly or contamination problems.5. Welder: Qualified welder used to weld GMAW (GAS METAL ARC WELDING).6. Filler materials: UNION K56 (THYSSEN) diameter 1.6 mm or equivalent. AWS A 5.18 ER70 S-6. DIN 8559 SG3 Parameters: 350-400 amps 30-32 Volts. 20 L/minute flow of gas.7. All vertical position welding has to be done in the vertical up position and NOT the vertical down.Welding Procedures:
1. Measure from the inner face to the inner face between the boom tower pin support areas. Document this dimension for future reference (DIM A), see area of reinforcement and/or repair. See Illustration 2.2. Remove weld with arc gouging electrode 8mm in diameter and make a bevel along the top doubler plate at the spreader plate. This should be at 30 mm deep with a 10 mm gap in the root, extending to the rail plate for full penetration. See Illustrations 3 and 4.3. Using a hydraulic press, spread the boom tower area 8 mm beyond the reference dimension (DIM A) to compensate for spring back. See Illustration 2.4. Weld a TIE BAR 60 mm in diameter between the left hand tower and the right hand boom tower (Illustration 5).5. Reweld area D with alternating passes from the left hand tower to the right hand tower. Alternating passes will reduce heat input and distortions. See Illustrations 3, 5 and 6.6. Finish welding area D along the front spreader plate. See Illustrations 7 and 8.7. Gouge out existing cracks along the rear edge and/or over the top of the doubler plates. See Illustration 7. If cracks do not exist, continue with the next step.8. Cut the ends (corners) off the
