Information:
Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The following steps must be performed in order to adjust the counterbalance valves for the gate cylinder.

Combination Valve (1) Test port "GG". (2) Adjustment for rod end of cylinder. (3) Adjustment for base end of cylinder.
Connect a pressure gauge onto pressure tap (1) for the gate, as shown.
Start the engine. Run the engine at high idle.
Illustration 5 g01945406
Activate the pilot switch.
The pressure setting for the reducing valve for the gate should be 6900 kPa (1000 psi). There is no adjustment for the pressure reducing valve.
Illustration 6 g01947236
Switch for gate up position
Operate the gate in the UP position (4). The pressure setting for the counterbalance valve for the base end of the cylinder should be 5800 kPa (850 psi). If the pressure setting is not correct perform Step 12.
Illustration 7 g01947246
Switch for gate down position
Operate the gate in the DOWN position (5). The pressure setting for the counterbalance valve for the rod end of the cylinder should be 2700 kPa (400 psi). If the pressure setting is not correct perform Step 12.
Loosen the locknut on the valve section that is being tested. Turn the adjustment screw until the correct pressure setting is reached. Tighten the locknut.
When the valve section has been tested and adjusted, stop the engine. Remove the pressure gauge.
