Remove the oil pan.
Remove the turbochargers and the brackets.
Remove the exhaust bypass actuator.
Remove the gas control valve.
Remove the actuator.
Remove the gas lines.
Disconnect the magnetic sensors.
Remove the pressure modules.
Remove the starting motors.
Remove the manual barring group.
Remove the camshaft drive gears.
Remove the crankshaft rear seal.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Remove the bolts (2) that hold the tube (1) to the oil pump. Remove the spacer (3).
Loosen all of the bolts that hold the oil pan in place until there is a 3.17 mm (0.125 inch) gap between the oil pan and the following components: front housing, cylinder block and the rear housing.
Remove the bolts that hold the oil pan to the rear housing.

This is an Illustration of a typical installation.
Fasten a hoist and Tool (A) to the rear housing (5).
Remove the bolts (4) that are inside the rear housing opening.
Remove the bolts (6) that are inside each camshaft drive gear opening.
Remove the bolts (7) that hold the rear housing in position. Remove the rear housing from the cylinder block. The weight of the rear housing is 448 kg (985 lb).
Remove the gasket and the O-ring seals from the cylinder block.
