Earlier Flywheel Housings
Earlier flywheel housings have a 38.10 mm (1.500") diameter hole near the top of the housing. The location of the hole is on the vertical centerline of the crankshaft opening, 251.46 mm (9.900") above the horizontal centerline of the crankshaft opening. See Illustrations 1 and 2. This hole must be cut larger, as follows: 1. Start from the front (engine) side, and machine the hole to a diameter of 41.28 mm (1.625") all the way through the housing. See Illustration 3.2. Remove any burrs (metal particles) and/or sharp edges around the hole.3. Thoroughly clean the flywheel housing to remove all metal chips, dirt, and other foreign material.

Installation: Install the 5P8066 Seal on the 2W647 Filter Assembly from the small end, then install the filter into the oil passage small end first. See Illustration 4. The small end of the filter extends through the 1S521 Ferrule into the passage in the cylinder block. Install the 6B2818 Spring behind the filter, then install the 2P8933 Cover.

Installation of secondary filter and parts.Dynamometer Test: Since the standard oil pressure gauge is connected at the oil passage in the flywheel housing, a second oil pressure gauge must be connected to the oil passage in the timing gear housing. This makes it possible to check the engine oil pressure on both the inlet and outlet sides of the secondary filter for protection of the engine from damage.
Make engine tests as follows, and make a record of the engine rpm, oil temperature, and the oil pressure shown on each gauge during the test.
A. At 1000 rpm with the engine cold.B. At rated rpm and rated load after engine temperatures are normal.During these tests, check both oil pressure gauges carefully. Stop the engine immediately if any of the three conditions that follow are seen.
1. If either gauge shows less than 240 kPa (35 psi) oil pressure at rated engine rpm. This is the minimum permissible pressure.2. If there is a difference of more than 70 to 105 kPa (10 to 15 psi) between the gauge indications at rated engine rpm. This is the maximum permissible pressure difference.3. If there is a sudden reduction of pressure shown on the gauge connected at the timing gear housing. This is an indication that the secondary filter is filled with debris, so there is a restriction of oil flow.Filter Removal: After the engine has been tested on the dynamometer, the secondary filter must be removed. To do this, it is necessary to remove the engine flywheel and the 2P8933 Cover. Then remove the 6B2818 Spring and the 2W647 Filter Assembly with the 5P8066 Seal. Do not remove the 1S521 Ferrule and its seal. Be careful to prevent damage to the 2W647 Secondary Filter Assembly, so it can be cleaned and used again.
