Transmission Oil Temperature Sensor SchematicCID 0041 FMI 03 service code is recorded when the power train electronic control module (ECM) reads the voltage of the sensor supply circuit (wire 709-OR) as higher than normal. This fault indicates that the transmission oil temperature may be incorrect, affecting shift quality.The following causes could signal this fault:
The +8 DCV sensor supply circuit (wire 709-OR) to the sensor is shorted to the +battery.
A sensor is faulty.
The power train ECM is faulty. This cause is unlikely.Note: Ensure that the CID 0041 FMI 03 is active.
Check the sensor harness.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the transmission oil temperature sensor.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage at the machine harness connector for the transmission oil temperature (sensor pin A) to the ground wire 202-BK (sensor pin B).Expected Result: The voltage should be +8 DCV 0.5 DCV.Results:
YES - The voltage is +8 DCV 0.5 DCV. Proceed to Step 2.
NO - There is a problem in the sensor supply circuit of the machine harness. Proceed to Step 3.
Check the sensor.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Connect the machine harness to the transmission oil temperature sensor.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.Expected Result: The fault is still active.Results:
YES - The fault is still active. The transmission oil temperature sensor could be failed. Replace the sensor and repeat this test "Check the sensor" again. STOP.
NO - Fault is no longer active. There may have been an intermittent fault in the machine harness connection. Proceed to Step 8.
Check the power train ECM.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
With the sensor machine harness disconnected, disconnect the machine harness J1 and J2 from the power train ECM.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage at the machine harness J2-12 (sensor supply) to frame ground.Expected Result: The voltage should measure 0 0.5 DCV.Results:
YES - There may be a short in the harness that is powered by the power train ECM. Proceed to Step 4.
NO - There is a short in the machine harness that is not powered by the power train ECM. Repair the harness or replace the harness. STOP.
Check if the fault is still present.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Connect the machine harness J1 and J2 to the power train ECM.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.Expected Result: The fault is still active.Results:
YES - The fault is still active. Proceed to Step 5.
NO - Fault is no longer active. There may have been an intermittent fault in the machine harness connection. Proceed to Step 8.
Check the +8 DCV sensor supply for the power train ECM.
Make sure that the key start switch and the disconnect switch are in the ON position.
