Electronic Control Module (ECM) can monitor parameters of engine operation. The ECM can initiate an action if a specific parameter for engine operation exceeds an acceptable range. Possible actions from the ECM are: "", DERATE, and "SHUTDOWN". All actions are not available for all parameters.Some of the parameters are programmable. Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) is used to select the actions from the ECM. Cat ET is used to program the level for monitoring, the trip points, and the delay times for programmable parameters.To program the monitoring system parameters, select "Monitoring" from the service menu that is within Cat ET. Cat ET screens provide guidance through the steps for programming options that are available. Some parameters will require a password to be programmed. Refer to Cat ET and to the Troubleshooting manual for additional information on programming the monitoring system parameters.Any failure of a sensor will result in the disabling of the corresponding portion of the monitoring system. There will be an active diagnostic for the failed sensor. Refer to Troubleshooting for additional information on sensors.
