Introduction
This Special Instruction provides the necessary information to install an additional drain line on the swing motor. An additional drain line should be added in order to reduce case drain pressure. This addition will decrease lip seal failures. Refer to the following procedure.Safety
Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, " Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, clean the exterior of the component thoroughly. Cleaning the component will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Set the additional drain line (1) as shown in Illustration 1.

Detach the 302-9565 Hose As from the Tee assembly.

(7) Hose As (8) Tee As
Install two new 6V-8398 O-Ring Seals (5) onto the new 6V-9837 Swivel Tee . Install the 6V-9837 Swivel Tee (2) and tighten to a torque of 76 4 N m (56 3 lb ft). Attach the 289-5569 Hose As (1) and detached 302-9565 Hose As to the 6V-9837 Swivel Tee as shown in Illustration 3. Tighten both hoses to 76 4 N m (56 3 lb ft).

Remove the plug and the seal from the air emission port of the swing motor.

Install a new 6V-8398 O-Ring Seal and a 3J-1907 O-Ring Seal onto the new 8T-6876 Elbow . Install the 8T-6876 Elbow to the swing motor. Tighten the elbow to a torque of 55 8 N m (41 6 lb ft). Attach the 289-5569 Hose As to the 8T-6876 Elbow and tighten to a torque of 76 4 N m (56 3 lb ft)

Tie up the 289-5569 Hose As with another hose using 7K-1181 Cable Straps as necessary. Refer to Illustration 6.Note: Sharp corners at each strap cutting edge shall not be allowed.
