Table 1
Required Tools
Tool Part Number Part Description Qty
A - Loctite Graphite-50 Anti-Seize Lubricant - Start By:
Remove exhaust manifold.
Remove fuel rail and fuel manifold.
Remove fuel filter base.
Remove rocker arm and shaft.
Remove water temperature regulator.
Remove aftercooler.
Remove alternator (if equipped).
Remove fuel injection pump.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove bolts (15) and lifting eye (3).
Illustration 4 g03836044
Remove studs (16) and cover (17).
Remove bolts (18), alternator support bracket (7), and lifting plate (6). Installation Procedure
Install cylinder head (5) in the reverse order of removal.
Illustration 5 g03836094
Examine bolts (8) for wear or for damage. Refer to Reuse And Salvage Guidelines, SEBF8301, "Inspection and Reuse of Critical Fasteners Used in All Engines". Replace with new bolts (8), if necessary.
Note: Top gasket face of the cylinder block, the cylinder liners, and the bottom face of cylinder head (5) must be free of oil, fuel, water, and other contaminants before assembly.
Apply Tooling (A) to both sides of the washers and to only the threaded portions of bolts (8.)
Tighten bolts (8) in the numerical sequence shown in illustration 5 to a torque of 160 15 N m (118 11 lb ft).
Retighten bolts (8) in the numerical sequence shown in illustration 5 to a torque of 160 15 N m (118 11 lb ft). Tighten bolts (8) by an additional 90° in the numerical sequence shown in illustration 5.
Loosen bolts (8) until the washers are loose under the bolt heads.
Repeat Steps 1.b through 1.c.
Tighten bolts (4) in the numerical sequence shown in illustration 5 to a torque of 28 7 N m (248 62 lb in).
