267 & 277 A/B MULTI TERRAIN LOADER
20? WIDE BELT
Caterpillar will now offer a 20? wide belt for the 267 and 277 A/B model Multi Terrain Loaders. After rigorous field-testing in numerous applications, this new belt has proven to be very successful in reducing track derailment. The new 20? wide belt has an outside row of guide lugs, which helps for two reasons. The first reason is the outside rows of lugs acts as a guard to help keep unwanted dirt, rocks, and other foreign debris out of the undercarriage. When debris is allowed to enter the undercarriage system, it tends to lift the track off of the front or rear idlers, which leads to track derailment. The second reason for having the outside row of track lugs is to give better guiding. Now the outside row of rollers and idlers has a surface to guide off of in certain applications such as side sloping. In addition to the added guiding and guarding, the wider track offers more floatation and traction while still having one of the lowest ground pressures available on the market.

Maintenance/Track Adjustment
Although the new 20? wide belt will help to reduce track derailment, it is crucial to do the proper maintenance to the tractors undercarriage on a daily basis. Checking track tension and cleaning the undercarriage will significantly increase the life of the undercarriage system, which will help in reducing the owning and operating costs to the customer. The proper track tension for all Caterpillar? MTL?s is ?? to 1? of sag with 100 pounds of weight placed in the center of the track. Please refer to the Owning and Operating Manuel for specific details on measuring and adjusting the track belt for each model.
Summary
The new 20? wide MTL belt for the 267 & 277 A/B models will help to reduce track derailment. The outside row of lugs will serve two purposes in which to help guide the track and to reduce the amount of material flowing into the undercarriage system causing premature wear on the track components.
