INSPECT FINAL DRIVES FOR INCORRECT ASSEMBLY OF THRUST WASHERS, 615 TRACTORS, 4050, PI3050 U-17 PRIORITY Problem The listed 615 Tractors may have incorrectly assembled thrust washers for the final drive planetary gears. The steel thrust washers may be next to the planetary carrier and the bronze washers next to the gears. This assembly sequence is incorrect and will cause the washers to fail. The correct assembly order is that a steel washer must be next to each end of the planet gear and a bronze washer next to the carrier casting. Affected 615 Tractors 46Z885-46Z892, 894-907, 909-911, 913, 914 Action Requested (Parts Stock Action Not Needed) Owners will not receive Mail Notification from Caterpillar. Inspect both final drives on all the listed 615 Tractors to see if the two thrust washers are installed in the correct order. This requires disassembly of the final drives to determine how the washers behind the planetary gears are installed. If you find bronze washers next to the steel gears, inspect these bronze washers for wear. If worn, install 12 - 4V5234 Washers. If not worn, reinstall the same parts with the steel washers next to the gears. Parts Disposition Dispose of any parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts disposition. Completion Date Termination Date September 30, 1984. March 31, 1985.
