Drain the coolant below the level of the DEF injector. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

Remove bolts (1) and cover (2).
Illustration 2 g06289002Note: Refer to Special Instruction, REHS8231, "Removal Procedures for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Connectors" for the correct removal procedure for hose assembly (4).
Disconnect harness assembly (3). Disconnect hose assembly (4). Cap hose assembly (4) with Tooling (A).

Loosen clamps (5) and disconnect hoses (6).
Remove bolts (8).
Remove DEF injector assembly (7).

Remove gasket (9). Discard gasket (9) and seal (10) from DEF injector assembly (7).Installation Procedure
Install DEF injector assembly (7) in the reverse order of removal.Note: To maintain cleanliness, the protective caps must remain in place until the final fluid connections are made.
Replace seal (10) with a new seal. Replace gasket (9) with a new gasket.Note: Install gasket (9) so that the metal side is toward the clean emissions module.
Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of bolts (8).
Tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 5 1 N m (44 4 lb in).
Tighten bolts (8) again to a torque of 5 1 N m (44 4 lb in). Turn bolts (6) for an additional 90° 5°.
