Conditions Which Generate This Code:This condition indicates that the coolant level is very low.System Response:The value of the "Engine Monitoring Mode" parameter will determine the actions that are taken by the Engine Control Module. The engine monitoring system can be programmed for the following actions:OFF - Engine performance will not be affected. - Engine performance will not be affected.DERATE - Engine speed is limited to a maximum of 1350 rpm. The vehicle speed is limited to a maximum of 72 km/h (45 mph), and the power is limited.SHUTDOWN - The engine will shut down if the engine is derated for the specified period of time.Refer to Troubleshooting, "Customer Configuration Parameters" for information that is related to monitoring system parameters.The ECM logs the diagnostic code into permanent memory.Note: This diagnostic code requires a customer password in order to be cleared.Test Step 1. Check the Coolant Level
Pressurized System: Hot coolant can cause serious burns. To open the cooling system filler cap, stop the engine and wait until the cooling system components are cool. Loosen the cooling system pressure cap slowly in order to relieve the pressure.
Stop the engine.
After allowing the engine to cool, check the coolant level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the proper procedure.Expected Result:The coolant level is low.Results:
OK - The coolant level is low.Repair: Check the cooling system for leaks. Repair any problems that are found. Refill the cooling system to the proper level.STOP
Not OK - The coolant level is not low.Repair: There may be a problem with the coolant level sensor. Refer to the diagnostic functional test Troubleshooting, "Coolant Level Sensor Circuit - Test" in order to verify that the coolant level sensor is operating correctly.Ensure that any repairs eliminate the problem.STOP
