Information:
A modem is a standard interface for the Series 1200 UPS. The "modem type" and "setup string" are configured at the factory. You can set the dialing method, the phone number, and modem "setup string".
Illustration 1 g01319883
"Modem Configuration Dialog"Types of Modems
The system has built-in support for three modems: US Robotics V.Everything [ID 2], MultiTech Multimodem II [ID 3] and Zoom 3049L [ID 4]."Modem Dialing"
The "Modem Dialing" field is used in order to configure the modem for the pulse dialing or the tone dialing.Dial In Number
The dial in number is the phone number of the analog phone line to which the system modem is connected.Modem String
The modem string is used to configure the modem. Refer to a Hayes AT Commands manual for details.Configuring the Modem
Select the dialing type by touching the appropriate button for selecting tone dialing or pulse dialing. Touching the callback number button pops up a calculator style keypad that allows entering the UPS phone number. When enabled, the paging mode ("Broadcast Paging" or "Escalate Paging") can be selected. "Broadcast Paging" sends a page to every user entered into the system programmed to receive a page for the event type occurring. "Escalate Paging" sends a page to the first user that is to receive a page, then waits for that user to call in and acknowledge the page. If the first user does not acknowledge the page, then the second user is paged. Paging will continue upward to a maximum of four possible users.General Paging Operations
The modem can be configured to broadcast calls to all people on the paging list. The modem can also be configured to escalate if no return call is made within a certain amount of time. The system uses automatic redial and rotation sequence after set delays for up to 200 call attempts. Users may individually enable or disable paging for alarm events or notice events separately.Specifications for the external modem option available with the UPS are:
56kps download capability ITU V.90 industry standard technology
Connects with all major modem protocols
Carrier Loss Redial enables the modem to automatically redial the last number called if a loss of carrier is detected
Remote Configuration allows modem settings to be configured from a remote location
Dial Security Including Dialback secures your network by verifying authorized callers and modems prior to passing a remote originated call or initiating dialback based on device configurationSupported Standards and Protocols
ITU V.90 at up to 56 Kbps technology
TU-T V.34 at 33.6 Kbps or 28.8 Kbps
V.32terbo at 19.2 Kbps (21.6 Kbps between Courier modems with ASL)
ITU-T V.32bis at 14.4 Kbps
HST at 16.8 Kbps
Backward compatible with most ITU-T and Bell standardsNumeric paging - system leaves UPS code number, call back number and notice or alarm code to indicate severity of problemAlphanumeric paging - system provides description of product, cause of alarm, serial number, location and callback numberNote: Modem option requires a connection to a phone line.
