Short-Term storage
Store the generator in a proper warehouse with a controlled environment.A proper warehouse or storage place has the following characteristics:
A stable temperature, preferably in the range from 10° C (50° F) to 50° C (122° F). If the anti-condensation heaters are energized, and the surrounding air is above 50° C (122° F), steps must be taken to confirm that the machine is not overheated.
Low relative air humidity, preferably below 75%. The temperature of the machine should be kept above the dew point to prevent moisture condensing inside the machine. If the machine is equipped with anti-condensation heaters, the heaters must be energized. The operation of the anti-condensation heaters must be verified periodically. If the machine is not equipped with anti-condensation heaters, alternative methods for preventing moisture condensing inside the machine must be used.
A stable support, free from excessive vibrations and shocks. If vibrations are suspected to be high, the generator should be isolated by placing suitable rubber blocks under the machine feet.
Ventilated air which is clean and free from dust or corrosive gases.
Protected against harmful insects and vermin. If the machine will be stored outdoors, the machine must never be left "as-is" in the transportation package. Instead, the following actions must be taken:
Illustration 1 g03878072
The machine must be taken out from the plastic wrap.
The machine must be covered to prevent any rain water from entering the machine at any point. The cover however, must allow air ventilation of the machine.
The machine must be placed on at least 100 mm (4 inch) high rigid supports, to make sure that no moisture can enter the machine from below.
Isolate by placing suitable rubber blocks under the machine feet.
The machine must be provided with good ventilation. If the machine is left in the transportation package, large enough ventilation openings ( 150 mm (6 inch) x 150 mm (6 inch) grill with insect mesh) must be made in the package. The ventilation openings should be made at opposite corners both horizontally and vertically. Refer to Illustration 1 for an example of approved ventilation openings.
Heated with anti-condensation heaters or an alternative method to prevent moisture condensing inside the machine. See the instructions above for indoor storage.
The machine must be protected from harmful insects and vermin.Long-Term Storage (more than 2 months)
In addition to the measures described with short-term storage, the following measures should also be applied for long-term storage:
Measure the insulation resistance and temperature of the windings every three months.
Check the condition of the painted surfaces every three months. If corrosion is observed, remove the corrosion and apply a coat of paint.
Check the condition of the anti-corrosive coating on blank metal surfaces such as shaft extensions every three months. If any corrosion is observed, remove the corrosion with a fine emery cloth and perform the anti-corrosive treatment.
Arrange for small ventilation openings when the machine is stored in a wooden box. Refer to Illustration 1 for an example of approved ventilation openings. Take steps to prohibit water, insects, and vermin from entering the box.A check-list for long-term
