Introduction
Both the Service Magazine, SEBD1230 16 August, "Output Transfer Gear Case Bearings Have More Capacity" and the Special Instruction, SMHS7414 01 July, "Installation Of 3T7389 Transfer Gear Case Assembly, 6P8830 Transmission Case Assembly Or 7G7139 Manifold Assembly" provide information regarding updating the transfer gear group in order to use larger bearings. The 3T-9050 Transfer Gear that is referenced in both articles has been cancelled and replaced by the 102-4562 Gear . The 102-4562 Gear uses improved material and processing in order to improve gear life. The 102-4562 Gear requires no modifications for use with the larger bearings. If reusing the original 3P-3356 Transfer Gear is desired, the gear must be modified for use with the larger bearings.Solution
This instruction provides the information that is required to modify the 3P-3356 Transfer Gear for use with the larger bearings. Adaptability
The new bearing assembly is a direct replacement for the former bearing assembly, if all the new parts are used. 3P-3356 Transfer Gear that has been modified as per this special instruction may be used in a transfer gear group that has been updated as per Service Magazine, SEBD1230 16 August, "Output Transfer Gear Case Bearings Have More Capacity".

( 1 ) This part number has been cancelled. For replacement, use all of the new parts. If necessary, the 7G-7140 Transfer Case Assembly can be adapted into the new 3T-7389 Transfer Case Assembly . Machine the diameters for the bearing assemblies to the correct depth. Refer to Illustration 1 for the correct depth.
After the gear has been modified, assemble the Output Transfer Case and Gear Group with the new parts that are listed in Table 1.For additional information about assembling the Transfer Case, refer to the Service Manual module Disassembly and Assembly, SENR7757, "Transfer Gears" and the Parts Manual.
