Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Do not fill fuel filters with fuel before installing them. The fuel will not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts. The fuel system should be primed prior to starting the engine.
Open the engine access door on the right-hand side of the machine.

(1) Bleed Screw
(2) Filter Housing
(3) Drain Valve
Attach drain lines to drain valve (3) and empty contents into fluid reservoir.
Loosen drain valve (3) and bleed screw (1) to drain fluid out of the filter housing (2).
Tighten drain valves (3) and bleed screw (1) when fluid has stopped or slowed.
Loosen filter housing (2) using an open ended wrench, socket, or strap wrench.

Unscrew filter housing (2) and remove the filter element (5).
Clean inside the housing (2) and base with towel.
Install new filter element (5) and tighten the drain valve (3) into element (5).
Lubricate the element seal (4).
Install the filter housing (2) with element (4) to the filter base utilizing an open ended wrench, socket, or strap wrench.Note: Tighten until metal to metal contact is achieved.
Prime the fuel system.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" for the correct procedure.
Close the engine access door.
