2. Mark for identification and location purposes and disconnect the wires from alternator (1).3. Remove the nuts from bolts (3) and (5). Remove guard (4).4. Remove the outer nut (8) on bolt (2).5. Loosen the inner nut (8) on bolt (2) until alternator belt (7) can be removed from the alternator pulley.6. Support alternator (1).7. Remove bolt (5) and alternator (1).8. If alternator bracket (6) must be removed, disconnect the grease line junction block by removing two bolts (9).9. Remove the four bolts and alternator bracket (6). The following steps are for installing the alternator. Refer to the topic "Alternator And Regulator" in the Testing & Adjusting Manual for additional information.10. Install the four bolts and alternator bracket (6).11. Install the grease line junction block and two bolts (9).12. Position alternator (1) onto bracket (6) and bolt (2). Install bolt (5) and outer nut (8). Do not tighten nut (8).13. Position alternator belt (7) onto the pulley of alternator (1). Install cover (4) and the nuts on bolts (3) and (5), but do not tighten.14. Use inner nut (8) to adjust the tension of alternator belt (7). Use a belt tension gauge such as a Borroughs Tool Company, Part No. BT-33-95, or equivalent, to check the belt tension and refer to the topic "Belt Tension Chart" in the Testing & Adjusting Manual.15. After proper belt tension has been obtained, tighten the nuts on bolts (2), (3), and (5).
After connecting the wires to the alternator, torque the nut securing the output terminal wire to 7.0 0.8 N m (62 7 lb in). Torque the nut securing the ground terminal wire to 6.2 0.6 N m (55 5 lb in).
16. Connect the wires to alternator (1) in their original positions.
