Machine General Information
The material feed system transfers paving material from the hopper to the screed. Components which move the conveyors and augers make up the material feed system.The material feed system contains an electrical portion, a hydraulic portion, and a mechanical portion. The electrical portion is made up of several ECMs and associated input and output devices. All machines are configured with zero, two, or four material height sensors. The sensors determine the material height at the ends of the augers and at the ends of the conveyors. The material feed system will work with either paddle or sonic sensors in all locations.The hydraulic portion of the material feed system consists of the following:
Two tandem, hydraulic pumps which are of the variable-displacement, piston type
Four hydraulic motors which are single-speed, fixed-displacement, piston type
One gear-type, charge pumpEach tandem hydraulic pump contains two rotating groups which are inside a single housing. The rotating groups inside one of the pumps provides flow to the right conveyor motor and right auger motor. The rotating groups inside the other pump provide flow to the left conveyor motor and left auger motor. An external charge pump provides charge oil to the material feed pumps.The mechanical portion of the material feed system is comprised of two chain-driven conveyors and two chain-driven augers.Note: The machine electronic control system is programmed with implement lockout logic. This logic prevents the material feed system from operating while the propel mode is set to "travel".
