Using a 1/2" breaker bar for 130 series Cat® Advansys tips and 3/4" breaker bar for 150, 170, 200 and 220 series Cat® Advansys tips, fit the square of the breaker into the retainer socket and rotate clockwise 180 degree into the locked position. Refer to Illustration 5. Perform this operation for the retainer on each side of the tip.

Ensure that the tip is secured properly on to the adapter. The retainers should be turned fully clockwise. When locked, the retainer tabs will be rotated 180 degree from the original position. Refer to Illustration 6 and Illustration 7.Removal of Cat® Advansys Tips
Note: During bucket operation, the retainer or retainer area may become filled or packed with material that makes retainer rotation difficult. It may also be difficult to remove the rusted parts. Consider the following suggestions when rotating the retainer.
The retainer must be free to rotate before the tip can be removed. It is necessary to remove as much of the compacted material as possible before using a breaker bar to rotate the retainers.
Remove debris from the square socket in the retainer.Note: If packing and removal of compacted material is frequent and time consuming, consider using the plugs designed for these sockets. The 523-9811 Retainer Plug can be used for Cat® Advansys 130 systems and the 468-8046 Plug can be used for Cat® Advansys 150, 170, 200 & 220 systems.
Soaking the packed retainer socket and the rear end of the tip with water may make retainer rotation easier. After wetting the material, allow a few minutes for the material to soften. Remove the softened material and then rotate the retainer.
Shocking the retention system may be necessary. A small air chisel or needle scaler may be used in order to loosen a severely packed retainer or a retainer that is rusted in place.Note: Once tips are rotated to be unlocked, the tip is no longer held on to the adapter and could fall off. To prevent bodily injury, ensure tips are pointed up and attached to proper lifting device when applicable.
