Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.Prevent possible injury by performing the procedure that follows before working on the machine.
Parking Brake Check
Personal injury can result if the machine moves while checking the parking brakes.
The following check determines if the parking brake is functional. This check is not intended to measure the maximum brake holding effort.
Be sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions.
Test the brakes on a hard dry surface.
Fasten the seat belt before you check the brakes.
Position the machine on a 20 percent slope.
Engage the parking brake and release the service brake. The wheels should not rotate. If the wheels rotate, apply the service brake.
If the wheels rotate and no leakage is found in the brake circuit then refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Braking System" for the machine that is being serviced.Service Brake Check

Test the brakes on a dry, level surface.
Disconnect the sensor for the brake pedal. Note: When you disconnect the sensor for the brake pedal, the Caterpillar monitoring system will record a fault.
Fasten the seat belt before you check the brakes.
Start the engine, and raise the blade slightly. Press the transmission modulator control and press the brake pedal.
Move the transmission control lever to THIRD GEAR FORWARD position and increase the engine speed to high idle.
Gradually release the transmission modulator control. The machine should not move and the engine should begin to stall.
Shift into the NEUTRAL position and engage the parking brake lever. Lower the blade to the ground.
Refer to System Operations Testing and Adjusting, "Braking System Troubleshooting" if the wheels rotate and the engine does not stall. Check for leakage in the brake circuit.
Connect the sensor for the brake pedal.
Clear the fault from the Caterpillar monitoring system.
