(1) Diagnostic Trouble CodeEach CAN data link circuit is an input and output of select electronic control modules. The data link is designed to carry communications between the electronic control modules. The data link is not a visible component. The data link consists of internal control circuits and the connecting harness wiring.Possible Causes for a 247-09 Diagnostic Trouble Code Are:The 247-09 diagnostic code is associated with the Engine ECM. The FMI 09 means that the Transmission ECM is not receiving any of the expected information from the Engine ECM across the J1939 Data Link.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed if only two ECMs cannot communicate:
Loose harness connections
Open wires
Problems with the terminating resistors
Wires that are shorted to ground
Wires that are shorted to the battery
Data link high wire is shorted to the data link low wire
High resistance across the data link
Interference across the wires for the data link
Incompatible Software
Incorrect setup for parameters
Failure of a smart device
ECM failure (unlikely)The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed if all of the ECMs cannot communicate:
Wires that are shorted to ground
Wires that are shorted to the battery
Data Link high wire shorted to the Data Link low wire
Interference across the wires for the Data LinkPossible Causes for a 247-14 Diagnostic Trouble Code Are:The CID 0247 FMI 14 diagnostic code is used by the Transmission/Chassis ECM as a companion code. The CID 0247 FMI 14 DTC is activated simultaneously with a diagnostic code from another control module to indicate that the SAE J1939 Data Link has an abnormal condition.The FMI 14 diagnostic code will match the FMI 14 diagnostic code that is activated for the control module. The FMI 14 diagnostic code means that the Transmission/Chassis ECM is communicating with the other control module but is not receiving all of the expected information.The CID 0247 FMI 14 diagnostic code will never be activated by the Transmission/Chassis ECM as a stand-alone diagnostic code. The Transmission/Chassis ECM will only activate the CID 0247 FMI 14 diagnostic code along with one of the following module communication codes.CID 0596 FMI
