Schematic of the "Right Hand Joystick Thumbwheel"This diagnostic code is associated with the "thumbwheel" that is located on the right joystick. The FMI 08 means that the ECM has determined that the signal frequency or the signal pulse width is not within the expected range. The switch operates at a frequency of approximately 500 hertz. The switch has an operating duty cycle of 10% to 90%. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The switch has failed.
Intermittent connections or poor connections
Mechanical devices are loose.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.System Response:The diagnostic code of CID 2531 FMI 08 will be logged in the internal memory of the ECM and a level 2 warning is generated. All implement functions will be disabled.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2531 FMI 08 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure. Test Step 1. CHECK FOR POWER AT THE SWITCH.
Do not disconnect the harness connector from the switch.
At the back of the harness connector for the switch, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along contact 1 (wire X800-OR) for the voltage supply.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage from contact 1 (wire X800-OR) to contact 2 (wire J764-BR).Expected Result:The voltage is 8 DCV.Results:
OK - The voltage is 8 DCV. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The voltage is not 8 DCV. The circuit is open. Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT OF THE SWITCH.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
At the back of the harness connector for the switch, remove the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe from contact 1 (wire X800-OR) and insert the probe along contact 3 (wire M965-GN) for the signal wire.
At the back of the harness connector for the switch, insert the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along contact 2 (wire J764-BR) for the ground wire.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Monitor the signal of the switch with the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter .
Without disconnecting the switch or the hardware that is associated with the switch from the machine, take the switch through the full operating range of the switch.Note: Follow the correct procedure for testing the range of the switch. See Troubleshooting, "Calibration" for more information.Expected Result:The switch's signal responds in the manner that is described at the beginning of this procedure.Results:
OK - The switch's signal responds correctly. The switch is operating correctly. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The switch's signal does not respond correctly. The switch is NOT operating correctly.Repair: Replace the switch.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT AT THE ECM.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
