This section refers to the UPS/SMS and MMU modules only. The firmware update for the Paralleled Control Cabinet is covered in the Service Manual for the Paralleled Control Cabinet.Note: In a paralleled system both MMUs need to have the same version of the firmware.A firmware update should be performed during your next service visit, if needed. Technicians should always have the most recently released version of firmware. Having the most recent firmware allows the technician to bring a machine up-to-date. Contact your Technical Communicator with any questions that are related to firmware releases. The firmware is installed to the UPS/SMS or MMU by completing the following steps:
Manually select a firmware target.
Insert a file to the target in Step 1.Firmware Devices and Files
There are five firmware devices that need updated on the UPS/SMS or MMU in the UPS 1200 System. The following list shows the filename followed by the generic firmware filename.Boot Monitor Firmware - *apc2*boot*.motPowerPC Application Firmware - ups1200_apc2*app*.motAPC FPGA Firmware - ups1200_apc2*fpga*.ttfESS FPGA Firmware - (if option installed) *ess*.ttfUser Interface Firmware - *.lnxThere are three firmware devices that need updated on each of the Flywheel Cabinets in the UPS 1200 System. There is a pull-down menu to use in order for you to "Select target to be programmed". This menu will contain a list of possible firmware devices that may currently be updated, depending on which device to which you are connected. The next line down, "Browse for target file to be used", displays the file and the files location on your PC that will be programmed into the selected target or device. The "Download firmware progress" window is where you will see a progress bar increase during the update process. The "Program" button initiates the programming one the target file has been identified. This button starts the actual transfer of data from the PC to the UPS/SMS or MMU.The Exit button is used after all files have been updated and you wish to terminate the use of this utility. The Advanced button is not used on the UPS 1200 UPS/SMS or MMU. All check boxes under this menu should remain unchecked. The "Browse" button is used to specify the location of the file you wish to insert to the selected target. The "Reload Device" button is used to reboot the selected target. It is required to reboot all devices after they have the new firmware installed. This is one way to reboot the selected device. The "Read Back" button is no longer used either. The "Read Back" button was used previously to verify if the correct firmware file was installed without any discrepancies. New files and targets do not all have the ability to send this information back to UPS View.Serial connections are done via the Graphics Master Board. The Graphics Master Board is accessed in the customer contacts tray at the top of the Controls Cabinet.Procedure
