Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil. Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Identify all hydraulic lines as they are removed for reinstallation purposes. Cap and plug all lines and fittings to prevent any contaminants from entering the system.1. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system by slowly loosening the fill cap located on the top of the hydraulic oil tank. 1. Remove bolt (1) and pin (2). 2. Remove three bolts (3), bar (4) and flashing (5). 3. Attach tool (A) and attach chain from tool (A) to hopper bracket (6).4. Raise hopper enough to provide clearance for lower pin (9) removal. 5. Remove two lines (7). Cap and plug immediately. 6. Remove bolt (8), pin (9), and remove hopper hoist cylinder. For installation of the hopper hoist cylinder, reverse the removal steps. Disassemble & Assemble Hopper Hoist Cylinder
Start By:a. remove hopper hoist cylinder 1. Remove grease fitting (1).2. Remove cover (2), wiper seal (3), and rod end (4). 3. Remove nut (5) and remove two bushings (6).4. Remove ring (7) and O-ring (8).5. Remove O-ring (9) and back-up ring (10).6. Remove seal (11). The following steps are for the assembly of the hopper hoist cylinder. All cylinder components must be cleaned and inspected before assembly. If any components are worn beyond recommended limits they must be replaced. Lubricate moving components with clean oil during assembly. Assemble cylinder with all new seals.7. Install seal (11).8. Install back-up rings (10) and O-ring (9).9. Install O-ring (8) and ring (7).10. Install two bushings (6) and nut (5).11. Install rod end (4).12. Install wiper seal (3) with sealing lip facing towards the outside of the cylinder.13. Install cover (2).14. Install grease fitting (1).End By:a. install hopper hoist cylinder
