Use the following procedure to ensure that the cooling system is free of residue from the oil:
Drain all of the coolant from the cooling system.
Fill the cooling system with only clean water.
Start the engine and run the engine until the thermostat opens.Note: Do not use laundry detergent in order to clean the cooling system.
Add 0.473 L (0.5 qt) of soap that does not create a foam. Automatic dishwasher detergents work best.
After the detergent is added to the cooling system, run the engine for approximately 20 minutes. Check the oil for signs of breaking up. Also, check the water for patches of oil.
If patches of oil are present, add 0.473 L (0.5 qt) of detergent and run the engine for 10 minutes. Drain the soap and water from the cooling system.
Fill the cooling system with only clean water. Check the surface of the water for patches of oil. If the cooling system is still contaminated, repeat steps 1 through 6 until the cooling system is free of residue that is created from the oil.
Once the cooling system becomes free of residue that is created from the oil, add coolant and conditioner to the cooling system.Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the proper mixture of coolant and water.
