Replacement Parts
Consult the applicable Parts Identification manual for your engine.
When replacement parts are required for this product Caterpillar recommends using Caterpillar replacement parts or parts with equivalent specifications including, but not limited to, physical dimensions, type, strength and material.Failure to heed this warning can lead to premature failures, product damage, personal injury or death.
Midlife Inspection
Note: Performed at Proactive High-Pressure Fuel Pump ReplacementOnce the fuel pump is removed from the engine, the adapter and screen can be inspected. Inspect for the following
Deformation of the screen. Is the screen pushed down into the drain port?
Does the screen cover the drain port completely? If the screen is not deformed and completely covers the drain port, reuse the adapter and screen. If the screen is deformed or the screen does not completely cover the drain port, replace the adapter and the screen.Engine Rebuild Inspection
The inspections for the adapter and screen are the same as listed in "Midlife Inspection". Follow the inspection procedures listed in "Midlife Inspection".

Large gap between the adapter and the screen. The screen is also deformed pushing down into the drain port.
Illustration 4 g03813043
Large gap between the adapter and the screen.
Illustration 5 g03813059
Small gap between the adapter and the screen. No gap is allowed between these two parts.
If any of the gaps are found between the casting and the screen replace the adapter. If the screen is deformed and pushed down into the oil drain, replace the adapter.Inspection & Measurement of Bearing Bore and Bearing Sleeve
Precise measurements shall be made when the component and measurement equipment are at 20° C (68° F). Measurements shall be made after both the component and measurement equipment have had sufficient time to soak at 20° C (68° F). This will ensure that both the surface and core of the material are at the same temperature.A dial bore gauge is the preferred method of measuring bores but if a dial bore gauge is not available, an inside micrometer can be used.

Pump Adapter Assembly
Remove the bearing sleeve from the fuel pump adapter.
Clean the bore thoroughly before inspecting. Ensure not to damage bore when cleaning.
An adequate light source is necessary to inspect bore. An optical magnifier may also be used. Visually inspect the bore for damage and wear. Ensure that the bore is in excellent condition and there is no visible damage.
After cleaning, if the bore has any signs of pitting and corrosion, do not reuse the fuel pump adapter.
Inspect the bore with a seal pick to detect any wear steps. If wear steps are present, do not reuse the fuel pump adapter.

Perform measurement of bore (A) and surface texture (B). Wear of the bore beyond specifications is not permitted. If dimensions are not within tolerances in Table 4, then DO NOT REUSE.
