Cracking of the 209-5284 Guard have been reported due to assembly strain from bolted joint limitations and potential interference with other components.Solution
Follow these steps to eliminate interference and reduce assembly strain on the guard, minimizing fatigue fractures.Perform this procedure according to the following sequence.

(1) 3K-2889 Locknut (2) 5P-8247 Hard Washer (3) 209-5284 Guard
Install guard (3) onto stud.
Tighten nut (1) and washer (2) against the upper tab of the guard (3) .

(4) 0S-0509 Bolt (5) 9L-9132 Washer (6) screwdriver
Introduce an appropriate device such as a screwdriver (6) between the guard and the drive pulley. Ensure a 2 mm (0.078 inch) to 4 mm (0.157 inch) gap exists.
Tighten bolt (4) and washer (5) against the lower tab of the guard (3) .

Remove gapping device and visually confirm a gap of 2 mm (0.078 inch) to 4 mm (0.157 inch) exists between the guard (3) and the drive pulley.
Install the original outer cover and hardware.
