Chamber (6) is charged with nitrogen gas through charging valve (1). Chamber (5) is connected to the suspension cylinders through port (4) .The weight of the machine pressurizes the oil in the suspension cylinders. This pressurizes the oil in chamber (5) of accumulator (7) through port (4). This moves the piston against the nitrogen gas until the pressure of the nitrogen gas is equal to the pressure of the oil. The position of piston (3) in the cylinder tube (2) determines the ride height of the suspension.When the machine is moving, the suspension frame pivots as the wheels follow the ground contours. The suspension cylinders move continually above the midstroke position and below the midstroke position and oil flows in and out of accumulator (7) .The nitrogen gas in the accumulator acts as a spring. When the suspension cylinders are deflected, oil is forced into chamber (5). The piston is moved upward by the force of the oil and the piston compresses the nitrogen gas. As the force that is moving the suspension cylinders decreases, the nitrogen gas begins to expand. This forces oil back into the suspension cylinders until the pressure in chamber (6) is equal to the pressure in chamber (5).
