This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3316" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3316" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the July 31, 1999 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Rework Procedure.

The swing gear grease compartment allows displacement of grease to a point where it loses contact with the pinion and swing gear. Additional grease is required to completely fill the compartment and maintain lubrication of the swing drive components.

Rework Procedure
Group 1
The access point for the swing gear inspection cover is located under the main hydraulic valve and between the support plates for the boom-to-mainframe pin joint. Reference Illustration 2.
1. Remove the swing gear inspection cover. Reference Illustration 1.2. Add two grease cartridges or 1kg of grease to the swing gear compartment through the opening beneath the cover.3. Raise the boom and turn the upper carriage about 30 degrees. Lower the bucket to the ground. Stop the engine.4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until a total of 8 liters or 18 cartridges of grease have been added into the swing gear compartment.5. Inspect the inspection cover gasket and replace if necessary.6. Install the inspection cover.

The swing gear inspection cover is located beneath the boom-to-mainframe pin joint and can be accessed between the boom cylinders. Reference Illustration 3.
1. Remove the swing gear inspection cover2. Add two grease cartridges or 1 kg. of grease to the swing gear compartment through the opening beneath the inspection cover.3. Raise the boom and turn the upper carriage about 30 degrees. Lower the bucket to the ground. Stop the engine.4. Confirm an adequate quantity of grease within the swing gear compartment through the "Grease Volume Check Procedure" below.6. Inspect the gasket of the inspection cover and replace if necessary7. If the swing gear compartment is adequately lubricated, a consistent volume of grease will accumulate in front of the swing gear drive pinion as it travels around the swing gear. The following steps define how to check for
