Fabricate the two new gussets from steel that has a minimum yield strength of 290 MPa (42050 psi) to the dimensions that are in illustration 1.

Cut the former gussets (D) from the end of the strut assembly.

Place the new gussets in the position that is shown in Illustration 3, Illustration 4 and Illustration 5.

(W1) Make a 5 mm (0.2 inch) fillet weld only on the top of the gussets. (W2) Make a 6 mm (0.24 inch) fillet weld on the top and bottom of the gusset. (1) No weld 10 mm (0.4 inch) from end (2) No weld 20 mm (0.8 inch) from back corner
Refer to Special Instruction, REHS1841, "General Welding Procedures" for the necessary information on welding procedures. Weld the two new gussets to the strut assembly. Refer to Illustration 6.
