ACTION REQUIRED
Replace the existing mount assembly with a new 356-3100 Mount Assembly. The hood tilt actuator is located on the right side at the rear of the machine. Refer to Image1.
1. Open the clamshell hood.
2. Disconnect harness (D), remove cotter pins (C), and then remove the pins from both ends of actuator assembly (E). Retain the pins and cotter pins for later use.
3. Remove actuator mount assembly (A) from the hood tilt actuator assembly. Mount assembly (A) will not be reused.
4. Install new 356-3100 Mount Assembly (A) and secure with 8T-4121 Washers and 8T-4133 Nuts (B). Tighten to a specified torque of 55 +/- 10 N.m (40 +/- 7 ft.lb).
5. Install actuator assembly (E) using pins and cotter pins.
6. Reconnect wiring harness (D).
7. Close the clamshell hood.

The hood actuator mount needs to be replaced on the products listed below. The existing actuator mount can fracture and allow the hood to over rotate into contact with the counterweight, and cause damage to the hood. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 29Jun2012 when scheduling this service.
