CERTAIN 320C EXCAVATORS
PROBLEM:
Reports from the field indicate that fuel consumption is excessive when operating in a light load applications.
SOLUTION:
Perform the following procedure in order to reduce fuel consumption when the machine is operating in light load applications:
Use CAT Electronic Technician (ET) and perform an engine rpm calibration.
Select "Configuration" from the ET menu. Change dial speed settings 8, 9, and 10 in order to lower the engine rpm. Refer to Illustration 1 and Illustration 2.
Note: A minimum difference of 50 rpm MUST be maintained between each of the dial speed settings. The hydraulic pump under speed control will be disabled if the difference between the dial speed settings is less than 50 rpm. The new settings will not be retained and will be reset by the automatic calibration if the engine is reconfigured in the future.
