Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Attach suitable nylon lifting slings around parking brake (10) , around actuator (1) and to a suitable hoist. Carefully position the parking brake onto the machine and be sure not to foul any wires or loose hoses. The weight of the parking brake is 45 kg (100 lb).

Install four bolts (11) and four washers (12) in order to secure parking brake (10) to the machine. Tighten the four bolts to a torque of 530 70 N m (390 52 lb ft).
Remove the slings and the hoist that was attached in step 2 from the parking brake.

Install two spacers (9) , two brake shoes (7) and two springs (8) .

Install shoe retainer (6) , pin (5) and cotter pin (4) .

Connect hose (2) to actuator (1) and tighten retaining nut (3) .
In the removal procedure, the parking brake was manually released. Use the following procedure to reset the parking brake.

Make sure that yoke (13) is fully installed onto actuator shaft (14) . Turn the locknut of actuator shaft (14) counterclockwise until the locknut is against yoke (13) . Tighten the locknut of actuator shaft (14) to a torque of 17 N m (13 lb ft).
Start the engine. Disengage the parking brake.

Remove plug (15) and gasket (16) from parking brake (10) .

Insert a 6mm allen wrench into parking brake (10) . Turn the allen wrench in a clockwise direction until resistance is felt. The gap between two brake shoes (7) and brake disc (17) should be zero.
To set the initial running clearance, turn the allen wrench in a counterclockwise direction. You will feel a click on the allen wrench. Turn the allen wrench for eight clicks.

Use a feeler gauge to check the gap between two brake pads (7) and brake disc (17) . The running clearance between the brake pads and the brake disc is 0.575 0.075 mm (0.023 0.003 inch) on each side of the brake disc.
If the running gap is not correct, increase or reduce the number of clicks. Refer to steps 8.d through 8.f.
Install plug (15) and gasket (16) . Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.

Remove Tooling (A) in order to lower the truck body. The weight of Tooling (A) is approximately 66 kg (146 lb).
Remove the chocks from the road wheels.End By: Remove the steering frame lock. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Steering Frame Lock".
