2. Slide the inner bearing half onto the stub shaft. (Before doing this make certain the surface of the stub shaft is clean.) 3. Place the middle spacer onto the stub shaft next to the bearing. 4. Drive the race into the hub using a flat board and a mallet. a. Once the race is flush with the surface of the hub, place the spacer against the race and using the flat board and mallet drive the race to the rim inside the hub. Remove the spacer. 5. Throughly grease hub slots on the stub shaft and position the hub on the stub shaft. 6. Heat the outer half of the tapered bearing, using the same procedure as was used on the inner bearing half, and slide onto the stub shaft.
Parts heated to 180 degrees will cause immediate burns if touched with bare skin. Asbestos or suitable gloves should be used for handling bearings or injury will result.
7. Place the outer race retainer inside the hub. 8. Bolt the bearing retainer plate in place using new self locking bolts. 9. Tap the retainer plate with a brass drift to further seat the bearing. Torque the bolts to 35 ft. lbs. E. Stub Shaft Replacement
1. Attach a hoist or other proper lifting device to the stub shaft.
Heavy component. Avoid possible injury. Do not move prior to securely attaching a proper lifting device.
2. Lower the stub shaft assembly into position on the drum. 3. Using a bar line up the bolt holes in the stub shaft with the holes in the weight housing. 4. Using a nylon mallet drive the stub shaft into the weight housing as far as it will go. 5. Take three 1" × 31/2" long bolts with two flat washers per bolt and screw them into the stub shaft approximately 90 degrees apart. 6. Starting with the bottom bolt, turn the bolts in alternately until the stub shaft is completely seated in the weight housing.7. Remove the three 1" × 31/2" bolts and replace them with the standard 1" × 21/2" bolts.8. After making sure that each bolt has a lockwasher torque each bolt to 590 degrees ft. lbs.9. Drive corks into the blind holes. F. Motor Mounting And Bearing Seal Plate Replacement
1. Apply No. 2 permatex to the hub arm where the motor mounting plate will seat. 2. Bolt the motor mounting plate to the coupling side of the drum. G. Coupling Replacement
1. Insert the key into the keyway of the coupling and align the keyway on the shaft with the key in the coupling. Before placing the key in the keyway make certain that the key is free of all burrs and rough edges.2. Using the puller bolt, draw the coupling onto the weight shaft until it is firmly seated. (Torque to about 78 ft. lbs.)
Never use a key that is over 7/8" long.
