Schematic of the Cat Data LinkThis diagnostic code is recorded when the Implement Control Module (ECM) is receiving the incorrect harness code information from the monitoring system.The possible causes for this diagnostic code are listed:
Incorrect implement software is installed
Incorrect monitoring system software is installedNote: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 0967 FMI 12 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.System Response:The implement functions are disabled.Test Step 1. VERIFY THE HARDWARE AND THE SOFTWARE PART NUMBERS.
Verify whether the following part numbers are correct:
Software part number for the ECM
Software part number for the Caterpillar Monitoring SystemExpected Result:Consult your Caterpillar dealer for the correct configuration for the machine. All part numbers are correct.Results:
OK - All part numbers are correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - All part numbers are not correct. One of the electronic control modules may have the wrong part number and/or the software configuration is not correct.Repair: The appropriate flash file needs to be flashed into the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Program". Stop.Test Step 2. CHECK FOR ADDITIONAL RELATED DIAGNOSTIC CODES.
Ensure that all electronic control modules that use the Cat Data Link are connected.
Turn the battery disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Acknowledge any active diagnostic codes that are currently displayed on the Caterpillar Monitoring System.
Verify that no related diagnostic codes are active.Expected Result:Other diagnostic codes are not active. Results:
OK - Other diagnostic codes are not active. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - Other related diagnostic codes are active. Exit this procedure and perform the test procedures for the related diagnostic codes. Repair: Verify that the other related diagnostic codes are not active. Observe the status of CID 0967 FMI 12. If the CID 0967 FMI 12 remains active, perform CID 0967 FMI 12 again. Stop.Test Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS
Inspect the contacts of the harness connectors and clean the harness connectors.
Reconnect all the harness connectors.
Turn the battery disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Operate the machine.
Check the status of the CID 0967 FMI 12. Expected Result:The CID 0967 FMI 12 is active. Results:
YES - The CID 0967 FMI 12 is active. The diagnostic code has not been corrected. The ECM may have failed.Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace" for the machine that is being serviced. Stop.
NO - The CID 0967 FMI 12 is not active. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time. Stop.
