the Cat Telematics system does not respond to a connectivity test, certain steps can be taken. Use the following steps in order to help determine the fault.Note: Some of the steps are dependent on the customer being on site.
Determine through the customer if the radio is combatable with the Cat Telematics System. The customer may know if the radio was supplied through Caterpillar. If the customer is not sure of the radio origin, the radio information can be requested through the "Radio Configuration Log" on the user interface.
If the customer is not using a Caterpillar approved radio, functionality may be limited or non-existent. A list of Caterpillar supported radios can be found in Special Instruction, REHS1234, "Approved Radios".
If the customer is using a Caterpillar approved radio, proceed to Step 2.
Determine if either of the radios on the Cat Telematics system has been replaced since the last successful connectivity test.
If either or both radios have been replaced refer to Special Instruction, REHS1234 for instructions on "How to Configure Your Telematics Unit".
If neither radio has been replaced, proceed to Step 3.
Request the location of the machine. With the customer at the location of the asset, the following questions may or may not be answered. Ask the customer if the asset is powered ON, and located where the radios have clear line of sight to the sky.
If the asset was inside of a building, under/next to a large obstacle, or has the battery power OFF, have the customer do the following:
Turn the key power ON if the power was OFF.
Attempt to move the asset to a more open location with a clear line of sight to the sky.With the asset in a new location and the correct conditions are met, refer to Step 4.
If the machine was ON, and in a good location for data transfer, proceed to Step 4.
Perform the "Remote Connectivity Test" located in the user interface under "Service Tools".
If the "Remote Connectivity Test" is successful, then return the Cat Telematics system to service.
If the remote connectivity test is not successful, proceed to Step 5.
Submit a DSN ticket with the radio ID and the ID on the A5N2 Cat Telematics system.
