Introduction
This Special Instruction outlines the procedure for installation of the shield and seal on the exhaust manifold of certain C9, C13, C15and C18 Machine and Commercial engines.Required Parts

Improper installation of the packing material can result in a manifold fire.
Remove the current shield and packing material from the exhaust manifold and discard.
Do not modify the seal in any way. The modification could result in a manifold fire.

Install seal (1) into one half of clamshell (2).

Fit the lower portion of the seal in contact with center manifold section (4). Be sure that edge (3) fits inside and against center section (4).

Use tape in order to hold the seal in place for installation. The use of anything other than tape may prevent the clamp from properly seating.

Place upper clamshell (6) half in place.Note: Orienting the clamshell horizontally as shown in the picture is recommended.

Install clamp (7) onto clamshell. Tighten the clamp until both halves of the clamshell contact.
Tighten the clamp that secures the shield.Note: Ensure that no seal material is visible after assembly.
Torque the worm gear to: 10 N m (7 lb ft).
Torque the t-bolt clamp to 8 N m (6 lb ft).
