(7LG) Truck EnginesTHIS TIB REPLACES THE MARCH 2, 1994 ENGINE TIB, COMPONENT CODE 7490. DESTROY THE MARCH 2, 1994 TIB. IT WILL NOT APPEAR IN THE QUARTERLY INDEX. Problem:
Hard engine starting may be caused or aggravated by an OEM installed engine warning buzzer. Some truck OEM's may use an engine warning buzzer instead of/or in addition to a RED engine warning lamp for the 3176 Engine Monitoring Package. This buzzer may interfere with the engine speed/timing circuit. The problem will not occur it the customer has programmed the Engine Monitoring Package "OFF" or if ONLY a warning lamp is installed.Solution:
Check to see the particular truck is equipped with a warning buzzer (the warning device is activated for two seconds after the engine starts). If a warning buzzer is installed, temporarily program the customer specified parameter "Engine Monitoring Mode" to "OFF" to disable the engine warning device. If this test fixes the hard engine starting problem, follow these steps:1. Program the "Engine Monitoring Mode" to the previously programmed mode.2. Replace the warning buzzer with a RED warning lamp, OR replace the warning buzzer (may not be a permanent fix).3. If the truck has both a warning buzzer and a RED warning lamp, disable the warning buzzer.4. Make the customer and driver aware of the changes made to the engine warning device. To date, all such reports have been on Volvo chassis. ONLY 3176 (7LG7500-Up) Truck Engines are susceptible to this problem.
