Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Introduction
The fan speed - calibrate test is conducted with Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET). The technician follows the instructions on the ET calibration screen. There are two separate calibrations, minimum speed and maximum speed.Required Tools

Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location that is away from operating machines and away from personnel.Note: Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine or in the operator's sight.
Warm the hydraulic oil to 55° 10°C (131° 18°F) or warm the hydraulic oil to the range specified by (ET).
Open the access door on the front of the machine in order to access the cooling fan.

Attach Tooling (D5) to the fan.Note: Each fan comes with a factory installed piece of reflective tape on one of the fan blades. Apply a new piece of tape if a new piece of tape is required.
Install the Tooling (D) on the grill assembly. The front grill can be easily damaged. The damage to the door will occur as implements are moved. Make sure that the implements are locked out.Note: In order to ensure the proper operation of the cooling system, the doors for the engine enclosure should be closed while the test procedures are conducted.
Open Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) and check for active diagnostic codes. If there is an active diagnostic code, the calibration procedure will be stopped until the condition that caused the diagnostic code is corrected.
Once any active diagnostic codes are corrected, select the engine ECM from the available ECM list.Note: Ensure that the fan never operates in reverse mode (if equipped) during this calibration procedure.

Select the "Service" menu in order to begin the calibration procedure. Then select "Calibrations". A second menu will be displayed. Select "Engine Cooling Fan Calibration" from the second menu. There are two different calibrations, maximum speed and minimum speed.
