Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Remove".
Remove the front housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Housing (Front) - Remove".
Remove the flywheel housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel Housing - Remove and Install".
Remove the pistons and connecting rods. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Pistons and Connecting Rods - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Remove bolts (1) .
Remove crankshaft main bearing caps (2) .

Remove crankshaft thrust bearings (4) and lower halves of crankshaft main bearings (3) .Note: The crankshaft main bearing caps are marked with the numbers 1 through 7. The crankshaft main bearing caps that are not marked should be marked with the corresponding cylinder number on the side that is toward the right side of the engine.
Install a suitable bolt into each end of the crankshaft. Fasten a suitable lifting device to the bolts in the crankshaft. Remove the crankshaft. The weight of the crankshaft is approximately 129 kg (285 lb).
Remove the upper halves of the crankshaft main bearings (3) .
