Some dealers have questioned the ability to disable the two-speed feature through Caterpillar Electronic Technician (CAT ET) on the machines listed. At this time, the two-speed feature may only be disabled through Cat ET on tracked (Multi Terrain Loader, Compact Track Loader) D-series machines. Disabling the two-speed feature on wheeled ( Skid Steer Loader) series machines will result in an active diagnostic and prevent travel. This action is attributed to a hydraulic lines routing improvement over the C-series product which eliminated the crossing of drive lines to reduce hose rubbing opportunity. This change effectively swaps the forward and reverse motor ports between a two-speed Skid Steer Loader model and the single speed configuration counterpart. Wheeled machines equipped with two-speed feature then utilize a separate drive map from the single speed machine, so any attempt to change the configuration through Cat ET will result in use of the incorrect drive map & produce an active diagnostic for Un-Commanded Motion Detection (UCMD) as the expected speed sensor signal will be reversed.Solution
The preferred method to limit maximum travel speed is through application of the new "Machine Speed Limit" configuration parameter. This feature works by limiting full command drive solenoid ECM output current to a percentage of the maximum calibrated value, and can be set anywhere between 20%-100%. For machines equipped with the "Standard Display", this parameter can only be changed under the machine configuration menu though Cat ET. For machines equipped with the "Advanced Display", this parameter may either be changed through Cat ET, or may be adjusted through the display under the "Operator Setting" menu while logged in as the "Master". The "Machine Speed Limit" setting in the "Master" profile will limit the maximum travel speed of all operators. The machine can still shift between turtle and rabbit mode. However, the maximum run out speed of the motors will be limited by the reduced ECM output current to the solenoids of the pump drive. Alternate Solutions
If the actual customer demand is prevention of shifting into and out of rabbit mode (two-speed), an alternate solution on wheeled machines would be to set the two-speed rocker switch ("Multifunction Switch" for the "Left Hand Trigger") to the "Aux 7" position (two-speed disabled) & position the switch behind the console, covering the opening with a switch blank face plate.There are no plans at this time to restore the ability to electronically disable the two-speed feature on Skid Steer Loader models. Dealers are encouraged to voice the commercial need for this capability through the industry sales and technical service representatives for future consideration.
