Schematic of the speed sensor for the left trackThis diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the signal of the speed sensor for the left track as having an abnormal frequency. The engine must be running and the lever must be in the FORWARD position or the REVERSE position in order to detect this diagnostic code. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
The left track has stalled for seven seconds.
The + battery circuit (497-BU) from the electrical system to the sensor is open.
The return circuit (J764-BR) is open.
The signal circuit is open or the sensor is disconnected.
The signal circuit is shorted to a positive voltage source.
The signal circuit is shorted to ground.
The sensor is misaligned or adjusted incorrectly.
The sensor has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.System Response:When this diagnostic code occurs, the action lamp is NOT on. The machine will move in an open loop.Note: A diagnostic code will not be logged if both tracks are stalled for seven seconds. A Transmission Stall Event will be logged.Note: Certain procedures can cause diagnostic codes for the speed sensor to occur. A stall condition for one track could trigger a diagnostic code for the speed sensor. If a transmission stall event occurs, then the following diagnostic code procedure does not need to be performed. Examples of a transmission stall event are listed below:
The machine pushes a heavy load without moving for more than seven seconds.
The machine tries to move against the parking brake for more than seven seconds.Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code for the sensor is on hold and that the diagnostic indicator is ON. This procedure can cause related diagnostic codes to be recorded. Ignore these created diagnostic codes. When the procedure is completed, clear the created diagnostic codes. Test Step 1. CHECK THE RETURN CIRCUIT
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the sensor.
At the machine harness connector for the sensor, measure the resistance between return circuit J1-12 (J764-BR) and the frame ground.Expected Result:The resistance should measure 5 ohms or less. Results:
OK - The return circuit is correct. Proceed to test step 2.
NOT OK - The return circuit (J764-BR) in the machine harness is open.Repair: Repair the harness or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE + BATTERY CIRCUIT AT THE SENSOR
The machine harness remains disconnected from the sensor.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
At the machine harness for the sensor, measure the voltage. Measure the voltage from contact 1 (wire 497-BU) and contact 2 (wire J764-BR).Expected Result:The voltage that is measured is between 6.5 and 9.5 DCV. Results:
OK - The + battery circuit is correct. Proceed to test step 3.
NOT OK - The + battery circuit is open between the sensor and the ECM.Repair: Repair the harness or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE ECM AND THE HARNESS.
The key start switch remains ON.
The machine harness remains disconnected from the sensor.
At the machine harness for the sensor, measure the voltage for the signal circuit
