Assembly Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Distillate Fuel Engines
Inspect the bearings in the rocker arms for roughness or wear. The inside diameter of each rocker arm bearing is 70.000 0.015 mm (2.7559 0.0006 inch).
Inspect the shaft for roughness or wear. The outside diameter of the rocker arm shaft is 69.900 0.015 mm (2.7520 0.0006 inch).
Be sure that the passages in the rocker arms that are for lubrication are not restricted.

Install a new O-ring seal in button (5). Apply clean oil to the O-ring seal.
Install button (5) on the rocker arm.

Apply clean engine oil to rocker arm shaft (1) and the rocker arm bearings at assembly.
Install rocker arms (3) in the original position on rocker arm shaft (1).
Place plate (4) in position on the end of rocker arm shaft (1) and install the bolts that hold plate (4) in place.
Install bolts (2) and the washers in rocker arm shaft (1). Heavy Fuel Engines

Be sure that the passages in the rocker arms that are for lubrication and the passages in the rocker arm shaft that are for lubrication are not restricted.

Modify Tooling (A) for the installation of the O-ring seal. The modification can be seen in Illustration 3.

Lubricate the insert and the O-ring seal with clean engine oil.
Place the new O-ring seal on the insert.
Hold button (5) on the end of the insert while you are using the modified Tooling (A) in order to push the O-ring seal into the groove inside button (5). This will install button (5) on rocker arm (3). Refer to the above Illustrations.

Apply clean engine oil to rocker arm shaft (1) and the rocker arm bearings at assembly.
Install rocker arms (3) in the original position on rocker arm shaft (1).
Place plate (4) in position on the end of rocker arm shaft (1) and install the bolts that hold plate (4) in place.
Install bolts (2) and the washers in rocker arm shaft (1). End By:
Install the valve mechanism group. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism - Install".
