ohms to 2000 ohms is acceptable. The resistance measurement is indicating that the temperature sensor inside of the Chopper Module phase module has failed.Repair: The phase module temperature sensors are not serviceable. In order to replace the temperature sensor, the phase module must be replaced. Replace the phase module that contains the faulty temperature sensor. Refer to Power Train Disassembly and Assembly, KENR8715 for instructions on the removal and the replacement of the phase module.STOP
NO - The resistance measurement between the temperature sensor positive and negative circuits is greater than 500.0 ohms but is less than 2000 ohms. This resistance range is what the ECM will consider as acceptable. The resistance measurement is indicating that the temperature sensor in the phase module is OK. Proceed to the Test Step 3.Test Step 3. CHECK THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN CIRCUITThe key start switch and the battery disconnect switch remain in the OFF position. The harness connector remains disconnected from the chopper module.
At the Inverter Cabinet. Remove the compartment cover (2) for the low voltage compartment that contains the motor control ECMs and the interface modules.
At the Motor 1 ECM, disconnect the J2 cabinet wiring connector from the ECM. Examine the pins on the ECM and the sockets on the J2 connector. Ensure that all of the pins and sockets are secured in the connector. Ensure that all of the circuit contacts that are used in the connector are clean and the contacts are in good condition.
Use a multimeter to check the continuity of the sensor positive (+) circuit wire RTDCP-BK by measuring the resistance between the ECM connector contact J2-70 and the phase module harness connector contact "F". While observing the resistance measurement, wiggle both connectors.
Check the continuity of the sensor negative (-) circuit wire RTDCN-BK by measuring the resistance between the ECM connector contact J2-57 and the disconnected phase module harness connector contact "G". While observing the resistance measurement, wiggle both connectors.Expected Result:The end to end resistance measurement of each of the temperature sensor circuits are less than 5.0 ohms at all times during the manipulation of the connectors. Results:
OK - The resistance measurements are indicating that there is not an open circuit or a poor connection in either of the temperature sensor circuits Proceed to the Test Step 4.
NOT OK - At least one of the resistance measurements between the end contacts of the temperature sensor circuits is greater than 5.0 ohms at all times or when the connectors are manipulated. There is an open circuit or a poor connection in the circuit that measures the high resistance.Repair: A resistance measurement that is between 5 ohms and 5000 ohms could indicate that a circuit is not open but may contain a poor connection. A resistance measurement that is greater than 5000 ohms could indicate that a wire is either not connected or is open.Check the connectors in the circuit in order to determine if there is a connection problem.Due to the complexity of the fiber optic circuits
